Handwoven wedding fabric

I finished 2.3 meters of the wedding fabric on the loom today. I wet finished the woven bamboo fabric and pressed it with a hot iron. It looks amazing and the glitz shines and glitters wonderfully in the photos which will add a bit of sparkle to my clients wedding outfit and will be sensational in the wedding photography.

This is a nice detail close up of the fabric after finishing and pressing.

All finished and ready for delivery.

(As I have blogged before) I love weaving crisp white but unfortunately my outlets do not like white garments due to the touch-ability factor.  Another white project is in the design stage, watch this space…

Wedding fabric update

It seems like I haven’t blogged about my own weaving in awhile, but I have been working on some exhibition pieces and I don’t want to post photos of the finished pieces until the exhibitions are held or at least until I get past the selection committee.

The wedding fabric is nearly complete and I just love the way it is weaving up. The bamboo yarn has a soft feel, a beautiful sheen and is really nice to weave. I am only using the bamboo for the warp and the weft is a cream boucle plied with a silver glitz.

Learning to weave

I found a little loom in a second-hand shop for $3.75!! It came with everything to start weaving & had never been used. So, I started Seán off (5 years old) & he is a natural. He was very proud of his weaving & I am so proud of him.

Seán was so happy with his work he did his own photography.

A visit from a weaver

Jenny Jackett visited me here in Gingin a couple of months ago. It was great to sit and chat with this wonderful and talented lady and the samples of weaving she brought for me to have a look at were gorgeous and very inspiring. The following images are Jenny’s weaving and weaving she purchased and created after a textile holiday in Peru.

Thanks Jenny for taking the time out of your holiday in Western Australia to come visit me and chat about weaving stuff… I love your work and call again when your in WA next time.

All weavers are welcome to my house & studio (which are the same at the moment until I get my new studio built!) Just call in advance.

Finished Baby Blanket

To finish the baby blankets I sewed a satin border around the weaving which squared them off perfect. Super soft and warm for the three new borns they were woven for. Warm hugs & cuddles xoxox

Weaving with Bamboo yarn

I have been commissioned to weave a length of fabric, which is going to be made into a jacket for a wedding dress. I started my search for yarns by ordering silk sample cards but could not find what I wanted. After i visited a yarn store in Perth I spotted it straight away….100% bamboo in 50g balls super soft with the feeling of silk.

I am nearly finished winding the warp and excited about getting the bamboo on my loom. The weft is a totally different yarn to blend the two colours and softness of the wedding veil with the simple yet elegance of the wedding dress.

Three Baby Blankets

Baby blankets on the loom, two are for Joc’s friends grand-children and the darker one is for brand new baby John Christopher O’Reilly who was born in Sydney a couple of weeks ago to a very happy Mairead, Cathal & sister Maeve. Well done all. Blanket on the way soon.

My first weaving project for the new year.

feb08-019.jpg

A week into Feb and I have just started back weaving on Jo-Anne (my weavebird loom). I had minor surgery in Jan so production was held off until now. I am weaving 100% cotton stoles / shawls with this beautiful complex pattern, I was inspired by the ‘Coverlet’ book my mother-in-law bought me for Christmas.

The warp is a wonderful butter colour and so far I have woven one with a light brown weft and I have started a baby blue one.

I am so happy to be back at the loom again.
